Southwest Region Planning Commission recently released the Monadnock Region ADU Design Challenge Playbook as the final chapter of its AARP-funded Accessory Dwelling Unit design challenge. This “how-to” guide is geared towards municipalities and organizations that are seeking to hold a Case Study Site-based ADU design challenge in their own community.

The Monadnock Region ADU Design Challenge brought together real Monadnock Region homeowners, architects, and building design professionals to develop high-quality, realistic, and innovative ADU conceptual designs tailored to specific case study sites. The competition aimed to encourage homeowners to participate in alleviating the region’s housing crisis by showcasing the design process and visualizing how ADUs can help meet a wide range of housing needs under a variety of site conditions. The Challenge connected Monadnock Region homeowners to architects, designers, and other housing resources and is part of a broader effort to foster creative housing solutions in the Monadnock Region.

This playbook tells the story of the Monadnock Region ADU Design Challenge and contains documents and lessons learned to help guide other organizations looking to implement a Case Study Site-based ADU design challenge. More information – including the playbook – is available for free at www.swrpc.org/adu. Contact Chloe Gross at [email protected] with additional questions.
