Southwest Region Natural Resources

Southwest Region Planning Commission (SWRPC) undertook a planning study under contract with NH DOT to examine transit needs and develop recommendations for improving transportation services and coordination in the Monadnock Region. The need to provide transportation services to people who do not have access to reliable transportation options, due to age, disability, income or other reasons, has been identified as a problem in Southwest New Hampshire for many years. This document provides guidance on how future coordination and partnership efforts should evolve, what information is needed for future understanding of transportation need, and future transit and paratransit investments that should be made in the Monadnock Region.

The Southwest Region Planning Commission (SWRPC) conducted the Route 10 Job Access Study to assess the need, market and feasibility of job access transportation service as a strategic measure to bridge the gap between observed need and available resources on the Route 10 corridor between Keene and Swanzey. The Route 10 Corridor is an arterial with a high number of commuters that connects a high proportion of affordable housing developments in West Swanzey and Winchester to employment in Keene.

The Regional Transportation Plan is one part of the Planning Commission’s work program to assist both local community planning and statewide transportation planning.  The Update presents a synthesis of policy and technical information relevant to local, regional, and state activity for the planning and management of the transportation system.
